Valentino Red Crêpe Halterneck Gown (AW 1993)
Curator's Note
Valentino Garavani introduced his signature red in 1959 with the Fiesta dress, a strapless tulle cocktail dress presented in his debut collection. The colour, later known as Rosso Valentino (Valentino red), became a defining feature of the house, with red dresses appearing consistently in his collections. This Rosso Valentino crêpe gown was presented on the Autumn/Winter 1993–94 runway. It features a high halterneck collar with two long ties that fall down the centre of the open back. A narrow vertical panel connects the neckline to the lower back.
